Nachtwey Harvey Workshop

What a workshop, am still taking it all in, will post more later...

Monday, November 5, 2007

I am pleased to say that I have been accepted into the James Nachtwey and David Alan Harvey workshop. Took me by surprise as I really did not expect this honor. I have heard there are 24 others accepted and looking forward to all the learning from such esteemed photographers, and people I will be meeting.
We have been asked to choose a topic, my choice is garbage...
Nervous to show my work to a panel of peers, especially at this caliber.
I will be blogging about the whole process as I have just bought a new macbook pro, it was time to update my powerbook.
So let the good times begin.

Where do the Children Play

On August 12th I will be holding an exhibition of work in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. The title is "Where do the Children Play" inspired by Yusaf Islams (Cat Stevens) song by the same title.
Included in the exhibition are children playing alongside Sri Lankan military guards in Tamil Tiger controlled Batticaloa, in Northern Sri Lanka, children catching dragon flies after the devastating flood in Jakarta, Indonesia, children inhaling glue in Kathmandu, Nepal, children climbing scaffolding erected to build new government buildings and thus further displacing the displaced in Kabul, Afghanistan - the one amazing quality found throughout the exhibition is that despite their situation children have incredible resilience and somehow manage to laugh, sing, play, and hope for a better future.

Jakarta Flood in March

This is another experiment I am doing with photoshop. I have always liked the number 3 so have included 3 shots of the flood from Jakarta.

Jakarta

Here is a piece I did last night while waiting for democracy now to load up their daily report. Having fun with my photos and finding new ways to mix them together as well as learning more on photoshop. These photos were taken in Jakarta in March. The first one is of a man cleaning up after the devastating flood, the other is a man at outside the railway station, dispite being severly disabled, he makes his living. I admire these people so much, for having so little yet surviving, its always humbling for me to make contact and for them to allow me to take their photos.

Photo of a Photo

A photo left hanging on the wall of one of the houses completely immersed in water from the flood in Jakarta, Indonesia. The level to which the mud reached is clearly visable.
